About the project
We Rise Again! is a community fundraising project aiming to give men with little or no experience of singing a chance to give it a go. You’ll have seen it done on TV, where workplaces or connected groups have created a choir from scratch….. It’s your chance to do the same for your community.
Singing is known to be good for you. It can help with breathing and posture, keep your mind sharp and can improve confidence and communication. Also, singing has been proven to help with mental wellbeing and is a great way to meet new friends.
Whilst we appreciate that joining a choir is not for everyone – and trying something new can be intimidating, the ‘We Rise Again!’ project is something different – there is no long-term commitment, no auditions, and absolutely no judgement.
To start
Everything needed will be provided by us. We do not expect you to be able to read music. We are looking for a group of ordinary guys.
Songs you have heard before
Our music team have selected popular, easy to learn songs that you will probably have heard (and sung along to).
No long-term commitment
Most importantly, this is a project designed to run for 10 weeks, culminating in a charity fundraising concert in aid of Mind Cymru. There is no commitment expected past this.
Meet new friends
‘We Rise Again’ is a community project. Get to know new people in your local area.
Bring your son, colleagues, team members
If your son fancies ‘having a go,’ then bring him along – we’ll happily welcome any ‘Dad & Lad’ duos who want to join. Want to improve team morale in the workplace or team bonding in your sports or social club? Come along!
Supported by our music team
A group of men gathered in a hall does not make a choir. It is the job of our music team to put everything together. They will support, nurture and help build your confidence to sing together and become . . . . a choir! Our Musical Director, Pauline Roden-Sharpe will be leading the ‘We Rise Again!’ project. She has been teaching music for over 40 years and conducting male choirs for 30 years. She’ll be joined by Jonathan Waite, our Deputy Musical Director and Helen Phillips, our vastly experienced accompanist. In terms of leadership, you couldn’t be in safer hands.
A new challenge
Let’s be honest, getting a group of strangers and non-singers ready to perform in just ten weeks is a big ask, there will be a lot to take in. However, just imagine the feeling of satisfaction from knowing that you did it!
We’ll even throw in a brew…. and maybe even a biscuit!
We all know that singing can be thirsty work! Join us for a coffee or tea during each rehearsal – chat with other singers or ask questions of our music team.
If you are still reading this page – you are exactly who we are after. Here’s everything you need to know.
Rehearsals will run every Wednesday for 10 weeks 7:00pm to 9:00pm, starting Wednesday 28th May 2025
We will rehearse at Tredegar Orpheus Male Voice Choir Music Centre, Rawlinson Terrace, Tredegar, NP22 4LF.
You’ll need to register before the first rehearsal, either at one of the information evenings being held on Wednesday 14th and 21st May 2025 between 7 and 9 PM or by clicking on the ‘Register Here’ link at the bottom of this page.
The fundraising concert with TOMVC will take place on Saturday 2nd August. You will be welcome to invite your friends and family to come along to support and celebrate your achievement.
So guys, if you’re up for a challenge, hoping to learn a new skill, or just fancy trying something a bit different – then join us. Enthusiastic, hesitant, or simply curious – all are very welcome!
